Establish a Sustainable Ecological City

Eco-city Blueprint

Environmental Life Circle

【Questions and Suggestions】

To build a low-carbon city requires the cooperation of community residents. In order to establish a carbon-saving living environment, Taipei City has successfully promoted 5 "low-carbon communities." Each community has worked hard for a long period of time and the public in the community have a high degree of willingness and execution to cooperate on energy saving and carbon reduction to promote eco-greening in the community, promote environmental education, set up a solar power generation system, a rainwater recycling system, green roof, low carbon and resource recovery and energy conservation facilities. If Taipei City wants to become a low-carbon city in the future, the public participation is absolutely important. The government must set aside the old thinking of the past and make direct plans for the public and communicate and coordinate with the public, and adopt opinions from the public, so as to unite the consensus on the development of a low-carbon city. We believe that the participation of the public will enhance the operational effectiveness of low-carbon cities and lead to unexpected environmental protection ideas. At present, only five communities in Taipei have reached the standard of a low-carbon community. We hope that the Taipei city government will step up efforts to complete it in other communities as soon as possible so as to achieve the ecological blueprint of a complete "People green life circle."

Urban Settlement Style of Life

The settlement life style was promoted by eco-environmental professionals in the 90'. Through complete community basic living facilities and the spontaneous power of community residents, we will reduce the occurrence of traffic journeys and develop a carbon-neutral and zero-waste community environment. This is the need to combine the community's hardware and software to work together. On the hardware side, reviewing the basic living needs within 15 minutes of walking distance, identifying inadequacies of facilities and areas, using policies and rewards to make up for them; citizens can still maintain their basic needs on foot when oil prices are high or energy is scarce. In addition, through rewardeding the overall development of street profiles, the overall planning and design of energy conservation, water resources and greening of the buildings and facilities on the street side will be taken as a whole.

In software, through education in schools and community advocacy, we can change our original habits and attitudes, focus on environmental issues and implement the concept of caring for the Earth.
